MDS - New navigation buttons vs. old buttons

Just a simple question,

the new buttons for next and previous do have now additionally a << or a >> in front (what from my point of view is not necessary), while the old don't have it (ranking).

Is there a serious reason for that?

yeah for sure, otherwisee the design would be the same but it is the same action that is performed, so i don't see a need to have a different design or?

So may you make it a bit more user friendly and use the same design or do you want an idea for that?
