Rejected: Backup Tribe Forum.

Dear Moderators and staff of Innogames,

I got an idea to share with you all.

What about a back-up ability of you tribe's Forum?(this feature is only available to the clan starter)

so if you click backup your total tribe forum. it will be generate an online back-up ?

When there is an issue with a person who deletes the whole forum for example then you can just back-up the last saved state you made?

This is also a very good solution to generate a back-up for the quickTool list.

Thats part one of my idee ...

Now part Two: Make the backup available for download.

When you start a new clan you can simply upload your old forum.

when you play at another/new world you can simply upload your quicklist Bar.

Regards,
Helzz

Hmm, I can see the sense of this idea, consider this but not absolutely necessary. In a full world may well rise to many tribes. For each tribe you need a SQL-file. And this is a lot. The server have to make daily by thousands of backups from each tribe. Hence too much effort. And the server would be littered with all the SQL files.

I think if someone gives you the right, you have to trust him. If he abused the trust: shit happens ...

A backup feature would just be outputting a SQL file and if only a duke could do it then there shouldn't be a huge strain on the server.
And I don't think it nessicary to have it do an online backup just output the SQL so the person can save it locally.

But I also can see alot of abuse of this system if people were to know the names of some of the tables and such and then given the ability to run querys on the database there could pontenially be major issues with people trying to attack the database.

So I don't really see the outputting of an SQL query as an option that will ever happen.

The server can't handle it I understand.

but, consider the option to make a file available for download ... so you can simply upload your forum.

Downloading the forum would be the best option. You could download it in a text file in CSV format (compressed of course ;)) then no one needs to no table names therefore will not be able to run SQL queries.

The only could be problem with this is that posts do not have their own Id like threads but they have quote Id's therefore they could act like post Id.

I like this option as Helzz said you would be able to upload the forum when just starting a world.

Though I like the idea, as mentioned there are obstacles preventing its implementation - but most certainly it would be great to have such a feature, so the days of tribal forum deletion being a serious problem would be over - for the most part.

I would love to see this implemented, as I somewhere have an old 400 A4 pages txt-file from a tribe-forum made with copy-paste... and it took time, alot of time :)

But perhaps maybe threads/post will not get hard-deleted as of today?
Consider 2 facts:
1) Wrong person delete all forum.

2) Try use printscreens as evidence in a ban as admin for post made by users in the forum, take that printscreen later to the court and they laugh there arses off at admin and InnoGames.

Edit: On some worlds admins do not have the right to actually read the forums, as stated by one CM in ticket, and the forummods are responsible for everything that is on the forum and that these players should moderate tribeforum with same rules that are used on the "public" forum (there forum-mods get Premium Points for doing same work but KNOW that they are obligied to do so).

That's a good idea, but when you have a spy in your tribe, and this could make just a backup it woudn't be good, you understand?! :p So you should have this function only available to admins ore moderators...

Sounds like a cool idea, but there would be no way to allow importing of data that was backed up without some serious security issues...from the most harmless, editing posts, to much more extreme. :(

Deleting a Forum is part of the Game, learn to live with it :D
Just give Privileges to players you can trust

Additionally, sometimes duke accounts get hacked. This would be a good addition, though barons and dukes should be able to download/save forums. The ability to upload forums is also a given, there's no point in downloading a large forum, having it hacked, and then having to manually put it together again - upload feature should exist.

You'll remember all the parts of the forum you need anyway.

But this is for keeping threads - e.g. war ops, conversations, important threads etc.

Just make sure it wont get deleted,
and if it happens its just part of the game :D

So hacking is part of the game? Or instead of making sure it won't get deleted, how about a nice backup feature, and as this seems to be the point of the thread...

Hacking? if you hack an account you can do much more damage than delete a Forum...
And mostly a hacker isnt the reason why a forum gets deleted

/implying people can hack TW.

It's impossible to hack.

That statement is not correct. Guessing ("logical brute-force") does work. (common passwords: "monkey", hometown, middle-name, inngame nick, etc). And i also believe reverse engineering would work.

OT: The forum should be able to be exported and uploaded, but not in SQL, since some may try to get the MD5 hashes laying around. If not this is possible i would suggest running an external forum like PunBB, which does, if i remember right, have a backup button in the admin pannel. If not you can just backup the sql files anyway. Last suggestion would be that Innogames would run the forums on external sql servers and therefore hackers would not be able to interfere with the inn game information, as far as i can think.

I'm no expert on this subject and all my opinions and statements is based on assumptions from my side.
