With the first ideas surrounding this dating back to 2014 we are finally doing something we haven't done in quite some time: adding a new building!

Watchful tribal warriors surely haven't missed our teases and hints on Facebook and InnoGames TV, so it might come as no surprise to you that the new building is: the watchtower!

The watchtower is a completely new addition to the village and not replacing any existing building. The watchtower is a tool to help new and experienced players to filter information, especially in mid to late game. In short it detects incoming attacks and automatically tags them with the most important information. Experienced players will still be able to gather more information by watching incoming attacks closely. Of course the watchtower also comes with its own costs, which makes strategic placement important and can also be an interesting target for offensive players.

This is how the tower works in detail:
  • Every attack that comes into range is tagged with the army size and if it is led by a nobleman.
  • This does not only affect attacks on villages within the range but also attacks traveling through the range.
  • Tags on the attack are kept, even if the attack moves out of range.
  • Tags are being displayed on the village incoming overview and for PA players on the incoming screen.
  • The detection range can be increased by upgrading the tower.
  • The maximum level of the tower is 20.
  • The requirements are the same as for the church (headquarter 5, farm 5).
  • On browser the watchtower range is displayed on the map. Mobile users have to use the watchtower screen.

How the grouping of attack size works:

Attack size Small => <1001 troops
Attack size Medium => 1000 - 5000 troops
Attack size Large => 5001+ troops

The mission for this feature can be found here.

We also prepared a short video for you, explaining all the new functionality this new feature brings to the game:

(we will add more languages to the subtitles later)

Known issues:

Issue: Watchtower range is not instantly updated on minimap when constructing a new level
Comment: This is due to browser/server caching. Will remain that way for now.

Issue: Sometime the circle for the watchtower range isn't closed / complete.

===============================

Please give us your feedback about this new feature in this thread. Thank you.

When will the wiki buildings be updated to include this?

Beta has no own Wiki and is using the one from .NET. Those will be updated once the feature is active on the version.

edit/ You can find the values for building costs, population and points here (they might change though):

Is there a printable version of this? But the WIKI I was referring to is the one that is a window that opens when you select "Help on buildings" from the HQ page.

You ruined the game! This is not the same good old-fashioned game Tribal wars we knew and loved. Your updates bring only harm and inconvenience to players. Many old players leave because of your innovations. Stop messing with the game.

We would appreciate if you could give us more details why you think this feature "ruins" the game. Please remember that this thread is about the Watchtower.

May I ask why the number of people to start it up is so high? 500 seems very excessive to start. To initiate this I would think that 20 to 50 would be more appropriate as a starting number.

Similar to the church the Watchtower has a strategical impact. Therefore he must be expensive of course.

While that is true, as the watchtower is leveled up of course more people would be needed but not at the very start.

Personally, I will not test the watchtower until I have at least one village near my current village. It is imperative to have an effective army in the first village to be at all effective. If the first village must devote a lot of population to a specific building, it cannot have either a large defense (so as to dissuade others from taking the village) or a large offense (so as to take a second village). If the 500 population is the same cost for each level (and 20 levels), a completed farm would only hold perhaps 10,000 troop units with a completed watchtower (and other village buildings). This may be good for later villages, but not for the first village. Perhaps there could be some option in the future like a 'first church' where the first watchtower would cost less in population?

Any other opinions about a "cheap" First Watchtower (similar to the First Church) and what should be its cost etc.?
